ST. JOHNS, Michigan (Oct. 22, 2026) – The Michigan Advanced Biofuels Coalition (MiABC) announces four new stakeholders, representing diverse areas of the fuel industry. The new stakeholders are Advanced Fuel Solutions (AFS), Inland Seas Advisory (ISA), Luke Oil and Pinkerton Oil.
“The scope of MiABC continues to expand as we add new stakeholders with diverse expertise in use of biofuels,” says Karli Kreger, demand specialist for Michigan Soybean Committee (MSC), a founding member of MiABC. “Regardless of their business focus, all these organizations have a common desire and commitment to reduce carbon emissions through successful adoption of biofuels.”
Founded in 2022 by MSC and the Michigan Soybean Association, MiABC works to increase understanding and adoption of biodiesel and other advanced biofuels produced from renewable resources such as soybean oil.
Advanced Fuel Solutions
AFS offers customized additive technologies, fuel testing and technical support to enhance the quality and performance of diesel, biodiesel, renewable diesel, gasoline, heating oil and marine fuels. For more than three decades, AFS has worked across the fuel supply chain, helping producers, distributors and end users improve fuel reliability and reduce risk amid changing fuel specifications and operating conditions.
“As new stakeholders in MiABC, we’re excited to be able to share our expertise to help fleets achieve optimal performance with biofuels,” says AFS founder and president, Paul Nazzaro, a widely known expert in biofuels for transportation and home heating.
Inland Seas Advisory
Based in southwestern Michigan, ISA is built on 30 years of experience in marine and maritime transportation. ISA bridges operations, finance and policy to help ports, shipping companies, manufacturers and other organizations implement projects to modernize maritime shipping infrastructure in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway. ISA has special expertise in transitioning energy to low-carbon fuels to meet maritime sustainability goals.
“We look forward to cooperating with other MiABC stakeholders to help drive momentum for biofuels on the Great Lakes and beyond,” says Michael Cooper, ISA principal advisor and a longtime thought leader in the biodiesel industry.
Luke Oil and Pinkerton Oil
Luke Oil and Pinkerton Oil are part of Luke Oil Family of Brands, based in Hobart, Indiana.
Originally founded in 1967 as a supplier of home heating oil, Luke Oil has since expanded to a full-service fuel supplier. Today, this third-generation, family-owned company is one of the largest fuel suppliers in the Midwest, distributing more than 1 billion gallons of fuel annually through a network of retail stations, dealers and fuel distributors, as well as to government and commercial customers.
Since 1973, Pinkerton Oil has supplied fuels, lubricants and greases to customers in southern Michigan, northern Illinois and northern Indiana. Pinkerton serves customers in multiple sectors, including farming, construction, rail, trucking and manufacturing. In addition to transporting biodiesel and other fuel products, the company uses biodiesel in its fleet of more than a dozen delivery trucks.
“Biodiesel is a growing part of our business. Our commercial and wholesale customers want reliable supply and real options as the fuel market changes. Through our partnership with the Michigan Advanced Biofuels Coalition, Luke Oil is expanding access to renewable fuels across our footprint, without asking customers to give up the dependability they expect from us,” says Thomas Collins II, vice president at Luke Oil.
Other MiABC Stakeholders
AFS, Inland Seas Advisory, Luke Oil and Pinkerton Oil join over two dozen other stakeholders in MiABC. As part of the coalition, these organizations signal their commitment to improving Michigan communities through heightened energy security, cleaner air and a healthier environment. Funding for MiABC comes from Michigan farmers through the soybean checkoff program.

About Michigan Advanced Biofuels Coalition
The Michigan Advanced Biofuels Coalition (MiABC) promotes the production and use of advanced biofuels, including biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel, to strengthen energy security, support agriculture, and improve air quality in Michigan. Through technical expertise, education, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communications, MiABC raises awareness and supports adoption of cleaner, domestically produced renewable fuels that reduce emissions from on-road, off-road, marine, rail, and aviation transportation while benefiting Michigan’s economy, rural communities, and environment.
About Michigan Soybean Committee
The Michigan Soybean Committee manages the investment of checkoff dollars on behalf of the 12,000+ soybean farmers in Michigan to increase their return on investment while enhancing sustainable soybean production. MSC is governed by the rules of a federally mandated checkoff program and led by a 7-member governor-appointed board of directors. Checkoff investments are used to research, educate and develop market opportunities for soybeans.
