Building a Stronger Biofuel Supply Network in Michigan Through Greater Education and Transparency

Expanding access to biodiesel and other advanced biofuels, such as renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), starts with stronger connections across the supply chain.

This week, the Michigan Advanced Biofuels Coalition (MiABC) brought producers, fuel distributors, fleet operators, and industry partners together at ZFS Ithaca for its inaugural stakeholder meeting to discuss opportunities to grow biodiesel use across Michigan.

One priority moving forward is making it easier for fleets to identify biodiesel suppliers throughout the state. As more businesses and local governments pursue lower-carbon transportation solutions, improving visibility into available fuel distribution will help accelerate adoption.

Michigan is home to two biodiesel production facilities—Thumb BioEnergy in Sandusky and W2 Fuels in Adrian—with a combined annual production capacity of 16 million gallons. Combined with growing interest from fleets and favorable diesel market conditions, stakeholders see significant opportunities to expand the use of this cleaner, renewable fuel across the state.
