MiABC Presents On Advanced Biofuels at the Great Lakes Alliance For Sustainable Shipping Annual Meeting

The Michigan Advanced Biofuels Coalition (MiABC) was honored to attend and present at the Great Lakes Alliance for Sustainable Shipping’s (GLASS) 2nd Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, this week. MiABC’s Sustainability and Outreach Director, Bailey Arnold, delivered “Biobased Diesel 101”, a jam-packed presentation that outlined how biobased diesel fuels are produced, how they differ from one another, their carbon-reduction benefits, engine and maintenance advantages, before closing with real-world examples of marine, rail, on-road, and off-road fleets using biodiesel and renewable diesel successfully across the region.

In addition to presenting, MiABC staff engaged with a diverse cross-section of the Great Lakes transportation community. This included rail operators, marine shipping companies, trucking and off-road fleets, as well as farmers, government officials, non-profit partners, researchers, and industry advocates. These conversations highlighted shared challenges, emerging opportunities, and the growing interest in adopting low-carbon fuels across multiple modes as both near- and long-term solutions.

The GLASS meeting once again demonstrated the strong momentum for advanced biofuels as practical, scalable solutions for decarbonizing heavy-duty transportation and strengthening regional supply chains.
