Ben Steyer, CEO of the Michigan Soybean Committee (MSC) and Michigan Soybean Association (MSA) – the founders of MiABC – spoke on the instant decarbonization benefits of biodiesel and how advanced biofuels can improve local air quality at Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision’s (SDEV) Healthy Business Mixer at Latino Press in Detroit on November 8, 2023. MiABC was a featured speaker and key SDEV partner during the event.
SDEV has been busy at work on air quality projects with business and industry partners to lower emissions and contaminants with the goal of reducing asthma in the region. For two years in a row, Detroit has been listed as the worst city to live in if you have a breathing ailment, and over half of Detroit Public Schools students are considered chronically absent with health and pollution-related illnesses at the top of the list.
In 2023, SDEV has initiated over 17 projects to reach families and students, and to assist business and industry in accessing grants to purchase newer, less polluting equipment or trucks, all to improve air quality in our region. SDEV shared information on funding resources, provided project updates, and introduced their industry parters, including Detroit 2030, the Detroit-Wayne County Port Authority, MiABC, MSC/MSA, and Michigan Clean Cities.
MiABC appreciated the opportunity to network and share ideas on sustainability practices, cost savings, and grant opportunities during the event.
